BLOG: Reclaiming Your Energy - Part 1

Ach. As much as I hate to admit this - it turns out Popeye was right.

I fought it for years. I thought I could go through life eating McDonalds, Swedish Fish, and Diet Coke without repercussion.

I figured if I could pop my vitamins, all would be well.

And then, of course, reality struck. My body visibly started breaking down. The docs had no idea what was going on, so I took matters into my own hands and started parsing it all out.

For starters, I got off all crap (i.e. the top eight allergens) and finally started drinking those green smoothies I've been reading about for years.

I had formerly shunned them. I prefer to chew my food, I told myself.

But I tried them, because, quite frankly, I was scared of all other food, convinced that something I was eating was causing my physical meltdown (it turns out this is part of the answer).

I still don't have it all worked out, but the one thing I have noticed is that my energy levels have soared.

It's just what the experts have told us for years, but I was too busy convincing myself that I wouldn't have to change my lifestyle. I could simply short cut the process and pop pills to optimize my nutrition.

But the fact remains, vitamins won't repair a diet that is deficient. Whole foods have too much complexity for us to know the precise contributions just yet.

So, here's the deal, if want to reclaim your energy, start from the inside out. Start by adding more greens and veg and see what kind of difference it makes.

Need a place to start? Here's the smoothie I put together in the mornings:

1/3 c. Simple Coconut Milk (the real deal in the can, not the boxed milk)

1/3 c. Water

2 Tbsp nut butter

1 scoop super greens or superfood mix

Two big handfuls of fresh greens (alternating varieties each week)

For dinner I haven't been able to get enough of sautéed spinach with browned butter. Simply throw a couple of tablespoons of butter into a sauté pan on medium. Cook until browned and smelling nutty. Throw in two or three big handfuls of greens and cook until wilted. Salt, if you'd like.

I realize this isn't my typical post, but we talk a lot about energy here, and this lifestyle adjustment has taken my energy to a new level, so I wanted to share it with you.

At the same time, know that there is chasm between knowing what to do and doing it. When that chasm is filled with the right type and force of thought, feeling, and belief, it will bridge the two sides and make the doing a whole lot easier.

If you're not there yet, file this away to bring it out if and when you find the need.

If you are ready, know that I'll be toasting you tomorrow, green smoothie in the air, wishing you health, wealth, and happiness.

And if you know you need to make lifestyle changes, but you are struggling to doing so, I can help you align those thoughts, feelings, and beliefs so that you are able to change your behaviors with greater ease.
